The greenest battery company in the world, Northvolt www.northvolt.com has signed a joint development agreement with Stora Enso in Europe to develop wood-based batteries using LIGNIN which is a polymer that comes out of the cell walls of trees and dry-land plants. Stora has a production site in Finland that has been producing LIGNIN since 2015. They will supply the LIGNIN and Northvolt will handle the battery cell design, technology and production process.
Woah, thats interesting. How will the lignin be uses? I am only aware of it’s binding properties.
That’s a good question, but the fact that the “green” side of the world is falling in love with the timber industry is a true breath of fresh air!
