Although the activity was quieter last week in the lumber market, traders were optimistic that better business was ahead. One reason was that the futures market rallied after several down days. Another reason was that the eastern mills were still wracked with problems as far as in the lack of manpower to produce and ship product. Although prices were soft, the eastern mills snubbed steep counters, protecting an unshipped order file. Demand was also evident in the market as inventories were stretched and wearing thin, from distributors to retailers.
