Last week ended more quietly in the eastern spruce market. Prices were suspect on 2x6 & 2x8 randoms but less so on 2x4 & 2x10 randoms. Nine-foot material was more readily available with eight foot items tighter and less vulnerable. With fewer orders obtained during the week, the eastern mills concentrated on reducing their backlog of orders that were late. Headway could be seen but progress was slow. With spring in the air, traders looked to better business ahead. Strong inquiry also on Friday helped to fuel this mindset and boost confidence levels.

Spring is in the air. The ground is thawing in Massachusetts and the buds on the trees have started to grow… you know what that means!
