Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Sales were slow to end last week in the eastern spruce lumber market. Although orders were tough getting, it was quite active nonetheless with many concerns looking, needing, and wanting material. Inventories are lean on the retail end but heavy at the mill. The wood is simply in the wrong place and not moving quick enough between the two to make a difference. Even though spruce prices were soft last week they were not going down fast enough to entice buyers. There was one big problem, retailers remained very busy, and distributors do not have the inventory to cover their quick needs.
