It looked to be another quiet day in the lumber market yesterday but looks were deceiving. Under the surface, demand lurked, and activity swirled, leading to a productive sales day for many traders. Orders were generated not so much from the mills, but from the various reloads with quick service. Inventory was the distributors’ strength and the key to sales. The eastern mills did not have the goods nor the shipments necessary to satisfy client demands. They had items they wanted to sell but found few takers for them, while client’s priorities were covering immediate needs.
