Last week saw a change in prices and buying philosophies in the eastern spruce lumber market. Following a precipitous drop in prices the week prior, dealers and distributors came into last week with a mindset and eagerness to bolster low running inventories and to cover upcoming commitments. The drop was enough to motivate a change and to propel activity seen in the market most of the week. The strong demand pushed prices higher and the influx of orders gave the mills what they have been lacking for quite a while, an order file.
