Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Activity lacked consistency in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. It was sporadic, showing signs of life one moment and turning quiet the next. Consequently, the volume of orders suffered. There was a spurt of activity in the morning, probably short covering prior to the holiday weekend, but demand trailed off as the day progressed. Prices also continued to trend down, albeit slowly. Buyers looked for steeper discounts but met stiffer resistance from the mills. An encouraging note from many dealers is that they all are busy with product moving consistently through their yards.
