Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Last week ended on a quieter note in the eastern spruce lumber market. The mills had taken what they wanted earlier in the week and were resigned to let the market settle after a difficult week of lower priced sales. One note of interest was the resiliency of western spruce mills, ending the week with prices unchanged on many key items versus eastern mils which saw lower numbers across the board. Also of note was the strength of the futures market adding support to current western prices. All eyes will be watchful if this will influence a change and turnaround here in the east.
