Activity and sales were vigorous in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Market uncertainty had distributors and wholesalers being ardent sellers. Distributors used the strength of their inventories to capture orders. Wholesalers were very aggressive with their quotes, trying to entice dealers with lower prices to garner orders. Eastern mills were not big participants to start the week. Due to current market conditions, western powerhouse Canfor is announcing a temporary reduction in production of 200 million board feet starting next week through the end of this year.
