It was a breakout day for sales in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. New orders for the day were not only strong for traders but the eastern mills also enjoyed a good dose of well needed business. The resurgence of demand instilled confidence that the market seemed to be waking up. Granted one good day does not make a market but it certainly was a step in the right direction. The increased mill activity sparked a round of short covering, adding to the energy in the market. It also gave cause for prices to curb their recent declines if not firm up on many items.
