Although last Friday was quieter in the eastern spruce lumber market, it ended one of the better weeks the mills and traders have seen in over a month. Prices were off earlier in the week but rebounded nicely on Wednesday and Thursday. This help add much needed confidence to a market that has been surrounded with lots of negativity from many fronts. For the eastern mills, prices had reached levels that challenged profitability and initiated production cutbacks by some. Shipments from the mills are into November with few mill and product exceptions.
