Activity and sales took a leap forward in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. It was one of the stronger sales days the market has seen in quite a while. Demand from manufacturers ignited the activity. Supply was good allowing them to step in without having to pay higher prices to do so. This also gave the mills confidence that they did not have to go lower to garner orders. Random dimension items led the charge. Granted there are sectors in the market continuing to retract but many others are seeing sustained demand that needed the replenishment.
