The eastern spruce lumber market was confounded yesterday. Demand was good but selective. Some clients gravitated to the market confidently while others were reluctant to do so. Some mills were busy selling while others struggled. For the most part, the business transacted was reasonable with many traders having a respectable sales day. By day’s end many eastern mills had less to offer, limiting options for delivery this month. Also impacting availability is that many are taking additional downtime in addition to their holiday shutdowns due to current market conditions.
