Higher prices and the lack of supply dampened the volume of orders transacted in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. New orders were off the pace experienced previously this week. Demand and activity were still very strong, but clients seemed not overly anxious to pay higher prices on products they might need. Buyers were poised to buy more but there was still some negativity and conflict present in the market that held back some purchases. Prices were firm at the mill level if not higher on many items. Order files for most eastern mills were into February.
