Demand and orders were slow to impact the eastern spruce mills in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Once buyers digested what little the mills had available to sell activity ramped up. Buyers reacted by covering orders they had and adding some speculative purchases in the process. The day ended with a flurry of orders for the mills and much less from them to sell. Clients felt the action but responded late missing out on the volume of lumber they may have intended to buy. Higher asking prices had their effect, deterring some potential purchases but not all.
