Strong demand ramped up activity and transactions in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. The mills sold well; notching prices higher on the items they had available. Last week’s lower numbers were passe. Clients did try to entice traders to take orders at the older levels with little to no success. Clients were not anxious to chase the market given the time of the year. The struggle for traders was that the mills want to keep a tight grip on sales, not selling too far into the future while clients want to maintain a low inventory footprint despite favorable low prices.
