Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

It was a very good start to the new week in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Demand was strong over a wide spectrum of products, especially on low grade and 2x3 items which have lagged and not kept up with the stiff increases seen by their high-grade counterparts. Higher mill asking prices on the higher grades were achieved on several transactions despite a fair amount of secondary wood that was present in the market. Normally secondary wood would play havoc with the market but there was little effect seen in the market to compete otherwise.
