It was a much better sales day in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Bolstered by their inventory positions, distributors took the lead in attracting and attaining orders. There was some back-to-back business with the mills but unless you already had orders to cover or were willing to do cheap business it was difficult to do. The mills admitted to getting enough business the last couple of days that they were able to firm up their prices and avoid having to take sizable counters to selling more. There were still some cheap prices encountered in the market but less so than previously seen this week.
