Fresh off a holiday weekend, activity picked up in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Some eastern Canadian mills were absent enjoying an extra day off but generally most offices were staffed. Demand lessened in the afternoon leading to uncertainty in the marketplace. Aggressive quotes by wholesalers were commonplace suggesting softening prices, but most eastern mills did not show the supply needed to support this. They have orders and are fighting to find ways to be profitable with the products they are producing. One question is do they have more product than is perceived?
