Very good demand sparked a strong day of sales in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. There was widespread participation by a mix of dealers looking to fill in with quick needs and those looking for extended shipments, at current to lower market prices. The eastern mills held their ground though, yielding little while getting orders. For their part, the amount of supply available for sale was less than what was expected. This was due in part by the volume of orders the mills attained last week, which for many, was one of the better sales weeks of the year.
