Steady demand generated several orders to end last week in the eastern spruce lumber market. The overall week was better than expected despite many traders being absent from the market. Indications were that much of the demand was not fulfilled last week in anticipation that more lumber would be available this week, as traders return to the market. There were mixed emotions from those attending the Montreal Wood Convention. Although uncertainty on the direction of the U.S. economy was debated, more participants felt that the worst was behind, and that better demand and higher prices were ahead.
