The eastern spruce lumber market ended last week on a positive note with strong demand noted by both distributors and the mills. It was one of the better weeks of the year with the number of orders transacted. Many dealers had seen an uptick in their business to justify further purchases, while taking advantage of the lower prices on many items still available in the market. They also seemed confident that downside risk was minimized with the current levels of prices and the potential of less supply with the recent announced mill curtailments in both the east and west.
