There was more energy in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Dealers found reasons to buy, not only for quick fill in but for the longer term as well. Consequently, eastern mills were busier, distributors were more active, and traders were able to put orders together, in what has been a quieter market. Maybe it was a rush before the long holiday weekend or maybe it was just a good sense that now was as good a time as any to buy a little extra. Prices were low with supply and demand seemingly in good balance. Why wait to solidify profits and not have to chase for material when more options were at hand.
