It was a lackadaisical start to the work shortened week in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Demand was evident but orders were not. The eastern mills were ready to sell but lacked buyer interest. The market has not changed in the last several weeks with prices meandering over a narrow range, albeit lower. Dealers are seeing a steady flow of product through their yards but not with the intensity to warrant adding inventory. They can get what is needed, when they want it, without overpaying for it. This philosophy seems to be in place until something changes to alter it.
