Anticipation that activity and sales would improve ran high yesterday in the eastern spruce lumber market. The results proved better than the day prior. The mills were poised to sell but distributors were more anxious and aggressive. They were better positioned with timely, less than truckload deliveries along with competitive pricing to match. With hotter weather fast approaching, the emphasis was turnover of inventory, not being married to it. Prices were vulnerable to a certain extent. The philosophy was buying only what was needed while keeping inventories very manageable.
