Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Activity kept up its hectic pace in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Demand was strong with orders over a wide range of products. Trading was done at higher prices than earlier in the week. Prices were not spiking but were seeing marginal increases, allowing for ongoing participation. The eastern mills did not want to lose track of the momentum in the marketplace by adding product whenever it was viable to them. With many order files now into July, they were also being careful in making commitments prior to their summer shutdowns, that begin mid-July and extend into early August.
