It was a strong showing for sales in the eastern spruce lumber market last week. The increased orders pushed prices higher and enabled the eastern mills to push order files into July. Some mills were able to sell some items that pushed out shipments of them up to their summer shutdowns in mid-July. As demand strengthened last week, supply was put to the test. Eastern mills were not able to increase production to match. Many of them are faced with individual struggles that limit their capacity, with the procurement of logs as one of the bigger challenges.
