Last week was one of the better weeks of the year in the eastern spruce lumber market so far. Demand was strong with numerous orders. Prices continued to climb. The eastern mills had little left to sell on Friday which diminished activity and opportunities to do business. Many of them are faced with upcoming vacation or maintenance shutdowns that will impact supply and will keep pressure on prices. Dealers are busy but most have adequate inventories for now. The question becomes how much new business will come in and how soon before they will need to replenish.
