Buyers perused leftover deals last Friday in the eastern spruce lumber market, not seeing many but finding enough to put orders together and making it consistent with the other days of the week. It also concluded the best sales month of the year for many so far. Prices appreciated on most items as supply tightened, not only at the mill level but for other sources as well. Positive signs for new construction were seen as indicated by June’s better than expected housing report, showing more starts and completions for the month and increased permits for the future. Strengthened demand helped drive up buyer confidence.
