Sales and activity were quiet in the eastern spruce lumber market on Monday, as many traders were away from the market either observing Canada Day or preparing for Tuesday’s Fourth of July holiday. The eastern mills had fewer offerings available as compared to last week. Asking prices were also higher. Some eastern U.S. mills are shutdown this week while their Canadian counterparts will have limited products that they can sell and ship prior to annual shutdowns, observed by several of them, starting July 21st. A key question is, will demand sustain itself and be as strong this month as it was in June?
