Demand lightened slowing activity and sales to end last week in the eastern spruce lumber market. Despite this, the rest of the week was filled with plenty of action and many orders. Distributors were the beneficiaries of most transactions, as several eastern mills struggled to meet commitments ahead of their summer shutdowns. With tighter mill supply ahead, dealers have planned accordingly by limiting purchases to only what is needed, as they wait for when steadier production returns from the mills in early to mid-August. Prices moved higher on most items in the east.
