Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

The pace of business for many has remained steady in the eastern spruce lumber market over the last several weeks. Spruce production has shrunk over that same period. Prices have appreciated as a result, some items by triple digits. There was good reason to believe this trend would continue as many eastern mills took some downtime, but the winds have changed as of late. New orders to the mills have slowed with more products being made available. Dealers are filling less often, restricting purchases to only urgent needs. Distributors and wholesalers have become more aggressive in taking orders. These forces are reshaping the market but keep vigilant, don’t presume.
