The eastern spruce lumber market came to life yesterday. The mills got busy selling and distributors began getting protective of their inventories. Buyers woke up from their recent slumber deciding they had needs to address and buy. Prices firmed up as the day progressed, allowing counters to be rebuffed. Not that prices were going higher yet, but they had certainly halted their recent slide. The hotter selling items included stud products, but various straight lengths also drew much attention. Mill order and shipping files quickly extended out to the end of the month and into early September.

Hi @william_giguere this is amazing! Very exciting developments in the eastern spruce market. Do you get the sense it’s indicative of the rest of the softwood lumber market as well? Demand is up, inventories starting to deplete, prices firming up, and we are on our way to an upmarket … hopefully?

Other species are also seeing an uptick in demand and takeaway. Panels though are lagging but it would not take much for them to make a turnaround as well. With many getting into a historically busier time of the year and with prices at the lower end of the spectrum all indications show an improvement on all fronts on the horizon.
