There was a much better tone in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Demand strengthened. Dealer inquiries were purposeful and acted upon. The volume of orders increased on a variety of items, especially on panel products. There was a growing realization and belief that there was not a surplus of lumber hanging around at the mills or in distributors hands. Whatever there was of unsold secondary wood in the market dissipated. The resurgence of activity helped build back up the recent lack of confidence in the market and that good business lies ahead.
