Last minute fill in by dealers took center stage in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Most had enough lumber to get them by for the moment and were not interested in chasing the mills and paying higher asking prices to get more than what was needed. Preparations for the long holiday weekend were foremost on people’s minds as the volume of lumber transactions eased. There were buyers looking to see if any opportunities might develop but none did, at least on the surface. The eastern mills were also content to wait, encouraged by the order files they had developed.
