Activity and orders surged with the uptick of demand in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Dealers and manufacturers were busy chasing down product. There was more conviction that prices were at a level favorable to covering needs and shoring up inventories. It was not an all-out assault on the mills and the reloads but it drew attention and had its effect on beginning to change buying philosophies. It was better to have material bought and coming than not to. Getting product quickly was the key but there were also many longer-term commitments made.
