Demand and activity were strong to start the week in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Dealers were poised to buy, as many mills and wholesalers returned from being away. The mills were ready with higher priced offerings on downsized lists, a result of the steady business they had gotten last week. They were able to garner orders which confirmed a real need existed and there was support of the higher prices. It was not easy selling though as they competed against lower numbers on many quotes, showing varied levels at which product could be bought for.
