Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Sales and activity slowed in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Although retail demand was off, the mills remained quite busy. They were active fielding buyer demands on getting previously taken orders covered. The pressure was strong to trade at lower prices which largely did not happen. The mills sold what they had while shying away from selling items they didn’t. Some mills asked for higher prices stalling new sales but there were others willing to take current numbers, wanting to stay in sync with the market and more importantly add to their order files.
