It was a resounding finish to last week in the eastern spruce lumber market. Demand was vibrant, business was strong, and prices moved higher for the work shortened week. The eastern mills had little left to offer after a solid week of sales to start the New Year. Most have order files through next week with some even touting deliveries into February with the orders garnered. Retailers and manufacturers also have seen a good uptick in their business, making them actively pursue material to keep their inventories in sync with the commitments at hand and with those coming due.
