It was a sparkling start to the new week in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Strong demand on a wide variety of products led by heavy participation from the mills resulted in many orders being transacted, all the while affirming higher mill asking prices. With solid business at hand and many commitments forthcoming, retail yards looked to shifting their focus on increasing their days of inventory rather than holding on to a philosophy of managing less. Despite the impact of winter weather, evolving demand is at the mercy of tenuous supply.
