Lighter demand in the eastern spruce lumber market last week kept prices vulnerable. There was a resurgence of interest and sales seen late in the week in 9’ and 16’ material, helping to boost overall transactions on the week. Out west, Rosboro announced an indefinite curtailment at their fir stud mill as of February 9th due to poor market conditions and excessive raw material costs. Curtailments have become commonplace over the last several weeks in various species affecting overall lumber production. The question becomes, how many more of them can the lumber market withstand before a major impact in price is seen and felt?
