A stellar day of activity and sales propelled the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday to one of its best days in recent weeks. Retail demand was strong requiring quick fill in, mainly from the reloads. Distributors remained aggressive in moving their inventories with the mills seeing little of the action. It is no secret that the mills miss and need distributors to get back into the market buying. The tone here at the Montreal Wood Convention remains bearish for the short term yet very optimistic for the year and business to come.
