Demand and activity slowed considerably last Friday, ending an uninspiring week in the eastern spruce lumber market. Prices meandered throughout the week, staying close to published numbers. There were isolated deals from the mills that distributors capitalized on, but few that influenced the market. Clients had little interest in buying ahead to build up inventories. They filled in as necessary, knowing they could get what was needed quickly and without having to pay a premium to do so.
