Activity was lite to end last week in the eastern spruce lumber market. There were some last-minute needs that surfaced but most held off buying in anticipation of the mills coming back on production today and tomorrow, after their two-week summer shutdowns. Tight supply helped move prices slightly higher on most items during the week despite weak demand in the market. The implementation of a higher export tax on lumber shipments from Canadian mills is due to take effect next Monday.
