Demand and activity sprang to life in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Clients were much more interested in knowing what was available to buy, especially for any options available from the mills, as distributors became more defensive and pricier with their inventories. Orders to the mills were heavily weighted to truck deliveries as a cloud of uncertainty swirled around what will happen tomorrow with the Canadian rail strike. There were no indications that a settlement was near.
