The sales pace saw an uptick of orders transacted in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Retailers and manufacturers became more committed to shoring up their depleting inventories. It was harder putting together orders with the mills though, as a lack of supply, especially on key items, turned attention to distributors and their inventories to source needs. Here too, distributors were being cautious and more defensive, not to overextend themselves as replacement costs on many items have risen greatly or are just not available to buy.
