Demand and activity were strong to start the week yesterday in the eastern spruce lumber market. Retailers were confident that prices were not going to retreat. They sought out key items, even paying more to get them. The mills sensing the demand, were resistant to counters regardless of the item. Eastern mills were careful not to overextend themselves on any given product, unsure that they would be able to produce them. Most mills had shipments into the end of the month with few able to ship sooner.
