The eastern spruce lumber market changed gears yesterday and went into overdrive. Demand strengthened boosting activity and increasing the number of orders transacted. As a result, prices vaulted higher on many items. It was one of the busiest days for the market in recent memory. What little the mills had available sold steadily. Distributors reacted accordingly, raising prices and being more defensive with their inventories. There was a strong conviction by many to get things covered, often paying up to do so.
