Activity was robust to start the week yesterday in the eastern spruce lumber market. Very strong demand resulted in many orders being transacted. Prices were also on the move as higher numbers were seen on many quotes. Contractual commitments mixed with production woes at the mills limited their open market wood, making it difficult to come by. Retailers relied on distributors to bridge the gap and fill needs, pushing their prices higher. Mill shipments were out 2-3 weeks, which is longer than they have been in quite a while.
