The lack of offerings from the Canadian mills created a stir in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. It was pronounced and widely felt. It was due because of potential tariffs being implemented on March 1st on Canadian lumber exports. Most Canadian mills have reached their allotments of what they can cross the border with by then. They have lumber for delivery after but subject to a potential 25% tariff. Stateside distributors went on the defensive, firming if not raising prices. Buckle up baby we could be in for a wild ride.
